The moon is old

The moon is old. It has been around as long as the earth. Both of them spinning and existing together. He has been the audience of mankind for thousands of years. Watching us work, play, love, kill, and die, continuing in his set path getting the action from every angle. Mr. Lunar saw the Egyptians build the pyramids, the greeks build Athens, the Romans Rome, the Great Wall, and New York city. He has seen so much death in wars on every part of our stage. The Crusades, the Napoleonic Wars, WWII, are just scenes in a horrible tragedy he assiduously circumvents. Does he ever wonder what will happen next? Does he “sit on the edge of his seat” so to speak, waiting to see if mankind will finally realize their stupor and set their sights on a happy ending? What are his expectations and predictions about the next scene? He must hide behind our shadow once in a while to get a break from the stressful calamity. Maybe that is why he has that proverbial astonished look on his face, with the “o” mouth and raised eyebrows, shocked at storyline we have presented, waiting for him to applaud.

Moon of Adam
Moon of Eve
The same Moon
Tonight I see

Moon of Caesar
Moon of Pharaoh
I share you now
Through time so narrow

Moon of Socrates
Moon of Einstein
I think under you too
More knowledge I can find

Moon of Muhammad
Moon of Jesus
Did you find God?
Have Him release us

Moon of Hitler
Moon of Stalin
These men changed us
You see, we have fallen…

I know you sit in space watching with contrition
Don’t abandon us now, we need your reflection
Proof that there is more
On the other side of the night
Proof of our need
Proof of our Light.

I once had a t-shirt that said:
"Be the moon, reflect the son". The moon indeed is most interesting...especially to those of centuries past. However, God will not be mocked. Which mount was once devoted to the worship of the moon God Sin? The one on which God would later establish his ten commandments upon. Why did Nebechednezzer have the lead role of kingship in Daniel? His pops Nabopolasar fled to Tima to devote complete allegiance to the moon God Sin (at least that's one theory). Unfortunately, these dudes of old turned objects of natural revelation into idolotrous divinization. The majesty of nature is inherently beautiful insofar as all beauty points back to the artist. If this proceeds unrecognized, man legislates and determines, thus providing the grounds by which impersonal idolotrous realations flourish...hence man's funky devotion to moons. But we have the privalage of recognizing what the moon really points to, and thus gives us cool little sayings like "be the moon, reflect the son"...I like that, but I gave the t-shirt away because it was too big...
